Interfilière Hong Kong Trends Forum decodes the Fall/Winter 2013/14 Trends
The trends forum has been a great success over the years. It offers carefully selected samples from exhibitors and manufacturers presenting trends for Autumn/Winter 2013-2014. They are representative samples of the major colors set to drive the season’s key looks. At the same time, it gives the head buyers and designers a clear overview of the new trends, colors and fabrics for the upcoming seasons. The themes of the trends forum are also extracts of the latest Evolution Guide 19 – Fall/Winter 2013-2014

The 4 themes are:
Light and Luxe: This trend is about re-interpretation of intimate memories and forgotten skills with new technology. It is a big revival of French style, detailed, light and frivolous. Lingerie should be delightfully intimate and precious. Adoption of delicate powdery colors with a hint of decadence.
Soft and Cosy: This trend is about dreaming of a world where the magic of transformation is reality. Inspiration came from a dream where the old rules and codes did not apply, a world where only creativity and playfulness counted.
Structured: Inspired by modernism in 20s, 50s and 60s, this trend is about the growing need for humility with regards to resources. The focus is on using modern technology for inspiration. Not only for comfort and construction, but also as an imaginary source. Pixels, fractals and the onslaught of 3D technology boggles the mind. Technology is translated into a new direction of beauty.
Dramatic: Black is the new black with fantasies and dreams. This trend is about sweet romanticism and flowers metamorphosed into erotic phantoms. Black seduction is decorated and embellished in refinement and sophistication exuding surprises and effects.
Interfilière Hong Kong also collaborated with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on a design project called “The Idol”. BA students in final year (2011-2012) in Fashion & Textiles with specialism in Intimate Apparel – Ace Style Institute of Intimate Apparel, Institute of Textiles & Clothing were asked to trace back the roots of lingerie and to create half prototypes and inspirational boards. The overall aim of this project is to equip students with academic and practical knowledge of intimate apparel with the integration of design and technological aspects. It aims to develop competent and dedicated professionals for the intimate apparel industry, with a long-term view to enhance the design quality and technological development of the current and future intimate fashion business.

This probably won’t surprise you, but I look at a lot of
lingerie. And especially with the popularity of Mad Men, I look
at a lot vintage-inspired lingerie. Everyone lingerie company out
there is slapping a little bit of lace on a bra and a couple of
garters on a panty and calling it “retro,” “pin-up,” or
“burlesque.” But nobody, and I mean nobody, is doing vintage-
style lingerie like this.
I first posted about Dottie’s Delights in an Etsy round-up on
girdles and garter belts back in 2009, and I’ve been a fan of her
work ever since. This year’s collection brings all the talent and
potential I first saw three years ago together, and magnifies it
by a power of 10.
Not only are the pieces even more gorgeous in person (I had the
pleasure of seeing them at this year’s Designer Lingerie
Showcase), everything is so very, very vintage without looking
the least bit stuffy or tired or overdone. I own a quite a few
pointy bras and even more girdles, yet this collection has made
me excited about them all over again. If you’re going to splurge
on luxury, let it be this kind of luxury.
