The Addict Expose: Else Lingerie Spring/Summer 2014

                           by Cora

We’ve featured Else Lingerie a time or two on the blog before. Unlike many of the labels we share, I wouldn’t call Else Lingerie an especially cutting edge or avant-garde brand. If anything, they’ve gotten more commercial over the last couple of years (check out this chevron set and this chevron set to see why I fell in love with them several seasons ago). However, they are remarkably consistent, and their aesthetic fits in well at high-end, yet still mainstream, stores like Neiman Marcus and Anthropologie (i.e. places looking for something a little bit different from the norm, but still marketable to the average American – read: conservative – woman).

That said, I do wish Else Lingerie was taking more risks now and exhibiting some of the playfulness and artistry I saw in their first few seasons. But I also understand the pressure of the market and the need to create a line that sells (as opposed to only moving when on sale). As several of my lingerie industry friends have pointed out to me, what I’m attracted to as a lingerie blogger (and someone who’s immersed in the subject everyday) is not necessarily the same as what the average woman is looking for. I want new, exciting, and interesting but many, many women want safe and simple…and a brand like Else is about as modern
and inspired as they’re going to get. That’s not so much a criticism of the collection as it is a rueful commentary on how lingerie is often perceived in society.

In summary, there’s nothing wrong with Else Lingerie. In fact, they’re doing a lot right. If this was my first exposure to the brand, I’m sure I’d be smitten. It’s just hard not to feel like something’s getting lost with each subsequent season here. And though I understand why, I can’t help but miss their more adventurous past.

What do you think of Else Lingerie? Are there any looks you like? And do you have any thoughts on the balance of a designer’s vision with the practicality of what sells?

Panache AW14 Crafted for Fit, Styled for Comfort

The past meets the present in the AW14 Panache collection, which is inspired by European folklore, a tale of desire and romance, and a renewed interest in traditional arts and handicrafts. Tapestry style prints mixed with traditional florals feature heavily throughout the collection amongst a color palette of gold, jet black, exquisite plum, ink blue and deep scarlet.
The Panache designer sites the stylist Catherine Babe and the fashion designer Ulyana Sergeenko as inspiration for this very special AW14 collection, while runway designers who inspired include Oscar De La Renta, Kate Spade, Moschino, Valentino and Erdem.
Porcelain Viva, the popular fashion range returns for AW14 in a charcoal grey with a delicate powder pink contrast embroidery and bow. The pretty embroidery trim and jacquard outer fabric ensures
that Porcelain Viva continues to be a fashionable everyday range. The Andorra range is one of Panache’s best selling fashion ranges and returns this season in full and plunge styles in a deep scarlet which gives this style a delicate, romantic and feminine feel.
Floris returns in a new print inspired old masters florals with a modern day twist in a strong grey and red colorway. The printed geometric Swiss embroidery top cup in a graphic design provides
depth and detail for a unique style. Tango remains the corner pin of the Panache collection and this season the balconnet style comes in a scarlet ombre with the signature embroidery leaf detail.
Based on the Tango range, Tango Accenti gives the same great support but with a touch of glamour and continues this season in sumptuous mulberry colorway.
The animal influence continues for AW14 with the best selling Jasmine balconnet bra being available in a leopard print design and also a black ricamo floral design, inspired by the folklore and hand vme down traditions. Colette returns for AW14 in a deep luxurious claret shade inspired by the romantic trend of sentiment, while trusted best selling fashion range Fern returns in a new print
design in a sumptuous navy and magenta floral.

Porcelain Idina, a popular core style, makes its first foray into fashion in a pink base with an all over navy floral lace. The moulded cup with flange gives a better appearance for a natural smooth shape under clothes. Another core style appears in a new colorway for AW14 – Envy’s balconnet, brief and high waisted brief range all
appear in a deep cassis shade. Envy Body is a new addition for AW14. This bra-sized body offers the same shape and support at the Envy bra but has power mesh at the front, back and sides for
control and has a black lace brief section for a luxurious finish.
Clara is pure indulgence for AW14 in luxurious black and ornate gold with a sheen satin back with overlaid lace for an opulent feel. Rhapsody is inspired by folk nostalgia and old master florals
for AW14 and is available in a multicolor floral print on a black background.
Porcelain Grace returns in a passionate scarlet colorway with a soft jacquard fabric with a lace effect elastic trim that provides a smooth cup with luxury feel. New to the Porcelain collection is Porcelain Elan which has innovative details such as moulded cups with flange to give a better appearance, seamless cups and mesh underlined wings for a soft, smooth look and stronger underband elastic for GG+ sizes.
Core styles include: Tango plunge and balconnet in black, white & nude; Porcelain Moulded T-Shirt, Strapless & Plunge in black, white & nude; Evie Strapless in black, ivory & nude; Evie Bridal in ivory; Sophie Maternity Nursing & Support Bras in Black/Nude & Pink/Ivory and the Cami Top in black & white; Dahlia balconnet bra with embroidery detail available in black and nude; Idina, the floral lace range in black and ivory in balconnet bra, high waisted brief and brief.
