Intimate Graphics: Angela Friedman Launch Event

            Intimate Graphics
             by Luis Paredes

Last month, we were treated to Angela Friedman’s launch event showcasing her Versailles collection. It was a beautiful experience that felt more like an adventure than a launch party. The night started out with me and Mozz Manzoor heading out to the gallery where Angela was holding her event. It felt great going to event not tied to the garment district or the showrooms in midtown. We walked inside and were led to the freight elevator.
As we made the slow climb up, I had the urgent sense that I was going to be part of something special. The doors opened and the sound of a violin filled our ears. We were let out into a gorgeous space filled with guests networking and enjoying drinks and pastries.
Off to the side, there was, what could be best described as a set, a miniature world evoking a bygone Baroque world. In the center, a wonderful vintage, velvety blue couch. It looked gorgeous and knowing what Angela’s pieces looked like I couldn’t wait to see the models take their place in this little world.
Angela didn’t disappoint. Everyone was treated to a parade of three models showcasing each of Angela’s stunning pieces. We were able to see Angela’s corsets, slips, kimono robes, lingerie and camisole sets in action with a live violinist in the background. It was magical. We filmed the evening and put together a short video for our readers to enjoy.

If you missed this incredible event, don’t worry, you can also experience Angela’s collection at the Lingerie Designer Showcase this August 5th – 8th at the AKA Hotel here in NYC.

Coquette Reinvents Character on HBO’s ‘True Blood’

The hit HBO series ‘True Blood’ has done it again, they have featured a Coquette piece in their most recent episode “Let’s Boot and Rally” from Season 5.
Rutina Wesley who portrays Tara Thornton in the show, looked amazing on last Sunday’s show wearing the Coquette bustier style #1077. Her character has made a dramatic change in fashion since being reintroduced as a young vampire. In a complete style reversal Wesley’s character went from plain jane to sexy vixen having fans do a double take. From the Rocker Chic line, this purple and black bustier was paired with simple black pants, making a strong, and surprising, style statement for Tara.

“I was overly thrilled to find out that the hit show was using another Coquette piece,” explained designer Jacqueline Macleod. “This piece was inspired by fishnet trends in lingerie that have become more in-demand over the last year. To know that Hollywood recognizes that and their [True Blood] on-set stylist chose one of our designs, is just amazing!”
The fishnet over lycra bustier has boned underwire padded cups, a center back hook & eye closure and elasticized waist. It features studded trim detailing on the cups and bone covers, removable straps and garters, and comes in small, medium and large. For more ways to stylize this piece view the Coquette 2012 look book online.
Coquette’s collection covers a wide range of styles that appeal to all personalities. This line currently has their Rocker Chic, Electric Blue and Emerald Green lines trending. Also comprised within this collection is a full bridal lingerie line, accessories and stockings. The Rocker Chic #1077 bustier, along with other Coquette lingerie, can be purchased from a number of the Coquette retailers both in Canada and the U.S.
The company is always pleased to see their designs on TV, in the news and in the media. Being the second time to have been featured on HBO series ‘True Blood,’ is an extreme compliment to Coquette and they are honored to have been featured.

Angela Friedman AW12

                           by Luis Paredes
Just this past Saturday, Angela Friedman hosted a fashion show in launch of her new collection. Presented in an art gallery, press, buyers, and special guests were treated to models, live music, food and refreshments while learning more about the intricate AW12 collection.
With the vintage trend flourishing who could say no to spectacular Victorian corsets with Baroque detailing? Angela Friedman, designer of the Versailles collection, is well known for her keen eye for detail and exquisite taste in materials. She has spent the past five years developing this line while working diligently in both the fashion and costume industries.
This collection features under and over the bust corsets that give the wearer an awe inspiring hourglass figure. In addition to these steel-boned corsets, there are several sumptuous, drapey silk slips, kimono robes, and camisole sets that lend themselves to utter envy. The whole collection exudes elements of aristocratic flair and femininity.

ESTY LINGERIE RELEASES SEVEN CITIES SS12 COLLECTION

                           by Luis Paredes
Designed by Esty Lingerie founder Estelle Puleston, this SS 2012 collection is named Seven Cities as it was inspired by different cities from around the world, including fashion capitals London, New York, Paris and Milan.
The collection includes three corsets, a chemise, a babydoll, a kimono and a bra set, each with a very individual look.

“It’s not a collection in the traditional sense,” says Estelle, “The items don’t match each other – they’re not the same colour, or the same style. Instead, each piece is inspired by the local culture and fashions of its city, such as the Paris corset which I got the idea for on a recent evening out at a cabaret there, so each design just as unique as the city it was based on”.
As with previous Esty Lingerie collections, Seven Cities is all handmade in the UK.
