Business and Technology: Lessons Learned From Your Daddy

Was your website affected by the recent GoDaddy outages?

A few takeaways from watching millions of small businesses lose possible sales related uptime.

Web Hosting – Being hosted by a company where you may just be another number, try a smaller web hosting company with a bit more personal service.

DNS(Domain Name Service) – The communication and translation service that points your web site to the proper server (among other things it does). Go Daddy’s DNS servers were affected. Think about splitting up some of your Go Daddy services between other companies.

Remember the bottom line is you get what you pay for.

Business and Technology: Pull the Trigger (triggered emails that is!)

Triggered emails are generated based on an interaction a customer has with you.

– The welcome email. When a new customer buys or signs up, do they get a welcome email? Now is the time to tell them how great they are for choosing you. Better yet, how great you are and the item/service you are providing for them. A bit of personal communication that goes beyond the sale. (And maybe a discount coupon if they return again?)

– The Reorder email. Does the sale/service have an expected consumption date? An email reminding them it’s that time to reorder as they may be running out of product soon.

– We want you back. Has there been no activity from a customer for a certain number of days/months etc.? Just a note to let them know how much you miss their business. ( And don’t forget that important discount coupon if they return!)

Business and Technology: Pinterest and You

Pinterest and You

Can adding Pinterest to your business’ social media use add profits?
A few tips to try to raise your bottom line.

Build relationship with clients who pin often, they are the ones with the most followers. (more chances for you to get repined). Ignore the others, your time is too precious to waste on following smaller Pinners.

Cross pollinate your social media. The other social media sites have vastly more users than Pinterest. Use your other social accounts to direct to Pinterest.

Of course pin your products, but also pin about things and stories related to your industry. Tips and tricks related to items you sell make it more human and less about the sales.

Getting clients and potential clients to follow you on Pinterest is important, but just as important is for you to follow those “super” Piners. They may follow you in return giving you that all sought after social media exposure that costs almost nothing to buy!!

Business and Technology: Can you have too much SEO?

         by the Gozooko Guys

Google thinks you can. (Wait, wait, Google knows you can)

We all know the purpose of a web search is to find something that is truly relevant to what you are looking for. Google has recognized there are sites which are “Over Optimized”, which is a detriment to sites with high quality content that is relevant to your search. Google recently released a change to their algorithm to mitigate overly SEO’d sites. So what should you do? What we have always said to do, simply make high quality content. High quality content is more natural and will ultimately win out over artificially SEO’d content. Should you still use target keywords? Absolutely yes! Just don’t overly pack your content with them or fill them in the content unnaturally. Google algorithm changes will be in continual iterations. You may not notice the changes instantly, but should over time.
